On this site, and in my book, you will occasionally hear me rant and rave about a group of folks that don't have your best interests at heart. I sometimes refer to them as the "Gadiantons". Who are the Gadiantons, you ask?
Gadiantons were the scourge of a society described in a popular ancient religious text. These Gadiantons were a secret organization of robbers and crooks that banded together in a secret oath to do anything to advance their causes and increase their power and profit.
The prophets who wrote of these wicked men with their sinister plots to squeeze common folks to get gain for themselves, also prophesied that such "Gadiantons" would always exist in every society and culture. Wicked men will always strive to enslave others to increase their own wealth and prosperity. These Gadiantons sound like the kind of folks that run the tobacco industry, are the corporate executives at companies like Enron, and also hold positions of power in the consumer lending industry.
They are cold and calculating in their efforts to squeeze the last dime out of you, without adding real value to your lifestyle or the economy at large. Most, but not all, are honest according to the letter of the law, but is it really ethical to create in society appetites for things we don't need at a cost we can't afford and on terms that mislead and enslave?
